T-minus
six days from kickoff in Super Bowl XLIV.
Online
sportsbooks currently have the Indianapolis Colts as a 6-point favorite,
with the total at 56.5.
That
said, the number is a bit shaky at-6 and could come back a little as news of
Dwight Freeney's injured ankle is all over the news. Freeney might not be able
to play in the big game due to the injury. SPORTSBETTING.com
reported a spike in money showing up on the Saints as soon as the Freeney talk
hit the wires.
According
to ESPN, Freeney "has a torn ligament in his right ankle that will make it
difficult for him to play in Super Bowl XLIV."
The
Colts, however, are denying the report, stating that Freeney has a low ankle
sprain and is questionable.
Regardless
of the true nature of the injury, Freeney is doing everything possible to be
ready for game time, undergoing hyperbaric chamber treatment and a system
called an ARP, which ESPN says affects blood supply to the injured area.
Looking
at some betting trends of note:
-
In Indy's last nine games overall, they are 7-2 straight up and also a very
profitable 7-2 against the spread.
-
During that span, they have produced 6 Overs and 3 Unders.
-
The Colts are 7-1 SU and ATS in their last eight games against NFC South
opponents and are 5-0 SU and ATS in their last five against that division.
-
The game will be played on the grass turf of Land Shark, er, Sun Life Stadium
and while Indianapolis plays indoors on turf at Lucas Oil Stadium, it has fared
just fine on the natural stuff, going 9-1 SU and 8-2 ATS on grass.
-
In the Colts' last 10 games when favored by 6-points or less, they are 9-1 SU
and 7-3 ATS.
The
last time the Colts played a February game in Miami was Super Bowl XLI and they
defeated the Chicago Bears 29-17 and covered as 7-point underdogs - the two
teams combined for 46 points, going Under the Total of 48.
